Published respectively in 2004 and 2009 by the French publisher Plon to great media acclaim, the two partly autobiographical "intimate tales" L'Amande (translation : The Almond- The sexual Awakening of a Muslim Woman, Grove Press, 2006) and La Traversée des sens by a Moroccan Muslim woman writing under the pseudonym Nedjma are raw celebrations of the female body and its pleasure, breaking the silence on the constraints that still weigh on women's sexuality in Arab-Muslim societies. Taking the representation of the taboo of virginity, omnipresent in both stories, as a common thread, this paper analyses how, by constantly mixing violence and eroticism, the two "confessions" question, in certain aspects, gender relationships in general, and the social constructions of female sexuality in particular in an androcentric system, while, at the same time, they contribute to reinforcing a certain number of orientalist and/or gender stereotypes.
Publiés respectivement en 2004 et en 2009 chez l’éditeur français Plon à grand renfort médiatique, les deux « contes intimes » partiellement autobiographiques L’Amande et La Traversée des sens d’une Marocaine musulmane qui écrit sous le pseudonyme de Nedjma constituent des célébrations crues du corps féminin et de sa jouissance, brisant le silence sur les contraintes qui pèsent encore sur la sexualité des femmes dans les sociétés arabo-musulmanes. En retenant la représentation du tabou de la virginité, omniprésent dans les deux récits, comme fil rouge, cet article analyse comment, en mêlant constamment violence et érotisme, les deux « confessions » remettent en question, sous certains aspects, les rapports sociaux de sexe en général, et les constructions sociales de la sexualité féminine en particulier dans un système androcentré, alors que, dans le même temps, ils contribuent à renforcer un certain nombre de stéréotypes orientalistes et/ou de genre.
