The construction of a citizen-centered ecosystem for renewable energies in France

Résumé

This chapter studies an innovative multistakeholder cooperative, a 100% renewable energies supplier in France supporting citizens' renewable energy production groups, organized through Enercoop Languedoc Roussillon (ELR). Beyond its internal organizational perimeter, ELR relies on a multilevel, intersectoral, and cooperative ecosystem to support an ecological, economic, and social transition. The case of ELR allows an identification of three key pillars enabling ecosystems for renewable energies to promote this kind of transition: a shared definition of the transition, important private and public financing of renewable energies, and the promotion of knowledge transfer concerning renewable energies.
