Towards Understanding Balkan Economic Thought: Preliminary Reflections

Résumé

The aim of this paper is to outline some common features of the Balkan way of economic thinking as an integral part of the European economic tradition. The first part of the paper dwells on the core features of the Balkan economic thought as we conceive them. The second part is focused on the role of the state in the economy, the transplantation of institutions from the Western Europe and Russia as well as some original ideas born in the Balkans. The third part outlines some reflections on cycles of "dependence - independence" of the Balkans economic thought regarding the influence of Western Europe and Russia. In conclusion, we discuss some common traits with the post-communist Central European economic thought. Copyright \textcopyright FrancoAngeli
